Residential project

LONDON - ACTON

Brief

The property is located in Acton, London. This wonderful property was not maintained for a longer period while the house was empty. A wooden shed was set in the far end of the garden surrounded by bushes and small types of trees. Fens was covered in over-grown ivy. The owner decided to clear the garden and add an area for bbq and entertainment for at least 4 people. One more important feature is that the house has an office room separated from the main house. One more issue with the office room was that in winter it was quite cool because all four walls were open with no isolation.

SOLUTION:
To address the need for a simple outside space, we added a simple area for sitting in front of the terrace door. This is also a more sunnier part of the garden so even in the more chilly days, area will be exposed to the sun. In the summer it can be pleasant for sunbathing. The second area is set up for the bbq. We built a covered part from wood that also has a sitting area. On the edge of the wooden cover we added a fire pit made from stone. The shed that was originally in the far right part of the garden has been moved to the far left where it is more approachable. To connect the house and the entertainment area we used stone path with light next to it.

In terms of vegetation, we kept the pine trees on the far left. Also, Fatsia japonica tree was kept and around it we planted some wonderful tulips and daffodils that will be the first to bloom in early spring. On the opposite side, there are flower pots with evergreen and seasonal flowers , with the fence covered in Ligustrum evergreen bush leading to the red rose bushes that are right in front of the office space window. To address the low isolation issue in the office room we added a green wall on one side with evergreen plants that are resilient to direct sunlight. Bamboo bushes were cut down to leave a neat line next to the fence and we kept the cherry tree that was originally on that part of the garden as well.
