Terrarium Landscapes
We recently started building this wonderful plant terrariums. Having an outside garden can be a luxury, and even if we have our own private open space, we can’t enjoy it all the time. As we go back to the office and to the old life stile, we are starting to miss out on the nature and stress free environments that use to be around us.
Plant terrariums can be kept indoors and can provide a calming environment in any indoor space. They provide a little green landscape view and a fresh garden smell. What a dream!
We have put together questions and answers that will let you learn a bit more about plant terrariums and how you can benefit from them.
What is a Terrarium?
Terrarium is an gardening container made usually out of glass. It’s kept indoors - on your desk, at the office, in your living room and any other place that has enough light and heat to keep the container moist.
Do Terrariums have to be closed ?
No. Not all plant terrariums have a lid on top. The ones that do have a lid on have the type of plants inside that absolutely have to have a constant % of moist and heat trapped inside to keep the plant alive. The terrariums that are open have the type of plants inside that don’t require constant watering like a cactus.
Do I need to water my plant terrarium?
That depends on the type of the terrarium that you own. If its a completely closed terrarium with no room for the air to come in, than no, you don’t have to because it will capture the humidity inside. Although, if you see that it can use a bit of water, you can always spray it twice, clean the class with a tissue and close it back up again. This should be done once a month tops (even less if needed).
On the other hand, if you terrarium is open than you do have to spray it from time to time. How often will depend on the type of plant that is planted. You can always check the soil and if you see it is too dry, give it small amounts of water.
How do I know if I need a closed or open terrarium ?
You can pick from a list of terrariums available and if you see something you like, we can give you instruction on how to care for it.
Things you should also consider is where that terrarium will stand. If it’s in the office or a place where it needs to stand for a longer period of time without anyone carrying for it, we recommend a closed one as that type of plant terrariums can live over a month without water.
Can my terrarium become over-grown?
Plants picked for terrariums are usually slow grown plants which means that they will get along just fine without any maintenance. However, after a couple of months it might need a bit of a trim on some plants. How to care for your terrarium should be included when you buy your amazing new plant.
